Once, it was famous with Gom Sanh (pottery without glaze fired with dry grass). Then the products here faced with compettion by products from other places in Vietnam and China as well. So the villagers of Tho Ha turned into making rice paper and raising pigs, and thus pottery job was gradually abandoned, coming to an end of traditional pottery produce.
These days, a trip to the village is a great chance to feel the peace out of bustling cities, to visit traditional Communal House, wooden old houses, see pigs farming of the locals and learn of making of rice paper to how see rice paper is created. Also, you can experience the daily life of people here by tasting a very normal, but unique local food here that you can find nowhere else in Vietnam.
Tho Ha Village Day Tour
06:30am. Tour guide and the vehicle from Paradise Indochina Travel pick you up at your place then start your journey of Tho Ha village Day Tour. On the way, the vehicle cross by rice fields, vegetable farms and it will be a good chance to shot countryside pictures, farmers with water buffalo,….
08:00am Arrive the local ferry, board on it to cross the river. After 5 minutes, Tho Ha village apears right in your eyes. You walk around to visit a small, but very typical local market of northern Vietnam. You soon have an overview of the culture after a short time here, seeing people, tasting some local speciality.
Continue Tho Ha Village Day Tour with a visit of families and learn more about their culture, with their daily works such as rice paper making process, rice wine,… Especially, when strolling through narrow and zigzag alleys, you can see many old houses constructed from broken part of terracotta dated back long time ago.
09:30am A glimpse at Communal house (once familiar with banian tree, a digged well/or a river, a communal yard) and a pagoda nearby the market. Our tour guide will give brief introduction of the village culture and what the life was in the past.
10:00am Visit a very nice, ancient house of a local which dated back more than 100 years old. Most outside part was refurbished, but the ceiling and decorated wall pictures remain original of nearly 100 years old. Also, this family still keep the original job of rice paper making by hand and rice-crackers (most families in the area now making rice paper in an industrial way by using electric machine). It is a good chance for you to join the kaking proccess. Also, a traditional folk music of different types will be offered and played by the owner)
11:30am Say goodbye to the host and go for lunch with finest Vietnamese food which you find it difficult somewhere else better. After lunch you get back to Hanoi.
